At Theatre De Regentes, on 4 February at 20:30, the Dutch band Lavalu, will showcase their blended sounds of jazz, pop, funk, rock and hip-hop will rock your night at ‘Bombastisch’.

The majestic sound of Marielle Woltring/Lavalu, baptised as 'the voice between Björk and Roisin Murphy', leads the band. As the pianist, singer, songwriter and composer she guides the listener through her new array of musical sounds. On the performing night, Marielle will be accompanied by Yonga Sun (drums), Miguel Boelens (saxophone) and Jörg Brinkmann (cello).

USA born Marielle Woltring, singer, composer, pianist, actress and writer, is regarded by many as the new Dutch music sensation. With twenty years of classical piano lessons, five years of searching for a new kind of rock/pop music, more than 150 gigs and endless rehearsals and writing sessions, Lavalu has proven she has what it takes to wow both Dutch and international audiences.

Her debut album HOPE or liquid courage has been described as "stylish, honest, self-willed and stirring". In her own words, "HOPE or liquid courage is the result of various musical influences, a desire for beauty and a strong urge for innovation."

About the genre of the album, Woltring says, "I cannot describe it. I can only say that the pop genre is intertwined with jazz, classical music, triphop and other musical elements. So I just say something like Radiohead asking Tori Amos for a dance while Miles Davis is beating time."

Although she kicked off a singer/songwriter career under her own name, Marielle Woltring, in 2005 she released her first EP Anxiety under the name Lavalu – "a name that came to me once and which felt right".
