Scapino Ballet Rotterdam present Reischl & Goecke

(Thu 04 February 2010)

Together with artistic leader of Scapino Ballet Rotterdam Ed Wubbe, Marco Goecke and Georg Reischl have been the face of Scapino for several seasons. In Reischl & Goecke they join forces to present two new choreographies. From Friday 5 February to Tuesday 11 May 2010 Reischl & Goecke tours throughout The Netherlands.

Both choreographers are constantly in search of the new, and demand almost impossible perfection of their dancers. But where Reischl interprets his themes in abstract dance, transporting his audience to a succession of enthralling physical worlds, Goecke is the quirky MC in a shadowy spectral realm.

A brooding atmosphere, inventiveness, virtuoso syncopated movements faster than the eye can see are typical Goecke elements.

Despite shock at his dark, lyrical dance language, the dance world welcomed Goecke with open arms.

Where Goecke explores a darker side, Reischl has a lighter touch, conjuring up a physical synergy between the dancers with his capricious, mercurial physical lyricism. If Reischl is the poet, Goecke puts the rock’n’roll back into dance.

Marco Goecke (pictured right) is undoubtedly the most praised young choreographer of the moment. His choreographies are sensationally quirky and innovative. In an enigmatically dark setting, evocative and magical, he touches the soul of the audience with absurdist dance the like of which has never been seen.

Marco Goecke is a force to be reckoned purely because his style is so uniquely his own.

But perhaps the most fascinating aspect of his work is the boundless multiplicity of passes and movements he endlessly combines and invents in each ballet: shadow boxing, pantomime, super-fast slapstick and abrupt changes in tempo. And in the wings, Goecke always has something else up his sleeve waiting to exhilarate or thrill the audience.

Georg Reischl (pictured right) has developed a style of his own with an unusual aesthetic sensitivity to design.

Reischl's choreographies fascinate with a sober, almost unreal atmosphere in combination with a clear composition. In December 2006 he became choreographer ‘in residence’ at Scapino Ballet Rotterdam.
