Wereldband meets Residentie Orkest

(Mon 08 February 2010)

On Sunday 14 February, at 14:15 the Residentie Orkest (The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra) present 'Too Hot to Händel ', a concert led by conducter Bas Wiegers and the Wereldband ensemble who both make their first perfomance.

The musicians in the Wereldband juggle their instruments like a circus troupe. All six members of the band can play about 50 instruments - Violins, violas, double-bass, guitars, mandolins; clarinet, flutes and whistles, the entire saxophone family; tuba, trumpets, trombones; a wide variety of exotic instruments; accordion, bandoneón; drums, and percussion of all kinds - in perhaps as many different musical styles.

They Wereldband have been acclaimed at both national and international levels. Each member has its own specialty, whether it be jazz, tango, gipsy music or traditional Indian music, and thier own unique identity. Together they make every composition a surprise, every piece something special, whilst maintaining their characteristic Wereldband sound.

The combination of The Hague Philharmonic and the Wereldband is a world-class recipe for musical virtuosity, slapstick and sentiment.

Who will win the prize for playing most instruments?
