March Classical: The Sound of Spring
Spring is around the corner and the sound of birds is ubiquitous. Let us indulge in beautiful sounds of all kinds throughout March.
On Thursday 18 March, we can enjoy a true ‘New Masters on Tour’ event. One of this evening’s masters will be the Croatian cellist, Zita Varga, who has already won many important prizes and is praised for her expressive playing. In a varied program, she will play the only cello sonata written by young Richard Strauss as well as joyful variations by Beethoven and Martinu. She will be accompanied by pianist Jelger Blanken.
The other celebrated master will be Latvian pianist, Arturs Cingujevs, whose piano playing is distinguished by musical content and depth, and who will also play Beethoven and close with Prokofiev’s impressive Sonata No.5.
The performance of ‘New Masters on Tour’ will begin at 20:15 at Anton Philipszaal, Spuiplein 150, Den Haag.
Tickets are between € 12,50 and € 25 and can be purchased here.
Fortunately, this will not be the only event where we can enjoy a master. On Tuesday 23 March, the New Dutch Academy Chamber Soloists directed by Simon Murphy will be joined by Swedish master Baroque Lutenist, Karl Nyhlin on an evening dedicated to one of the protagonists of the baroque era: the lute. They will play Arias for Lute, Voice and Orchestra by J.S. Bach as well as Lute Concertos by Fasch and Vivaldi and finish with selected Orchestral Works by Telemann and Graupner.
The performance of ‘Bach and the Lute’ will begin at 14:30 at Theater Diligentia, Lange Voorhout 5, The Hague.
Tickets are € 27,50 (uitpas € 22,50) and can be purchased here.
What better way to celebrate the start of Spring than an evening of German Romanticism at its best? On Saturday 27 March, two great singers and an excellent pianist will play Schubert’s Swan Song and lieder by Schumann as well as a number of duets from the German romantic repertoire. This concert is part of the Royaal Vocaal series, a lavish celebration of the human voice, which has had more music written for it than any other instrument ever has.
The performance of ‘Duitse Romantiek – Royaal Vocaal’ will begin at 20:15 at Anton Philipszaal, Spuiplein 150, Den Haag. Tickets are between € 10 and € 29.50 and can be purchased here.
