Here comes another Jazz event on the Haagse scene: on Saturday 27 March 2010 at De Regentenkamer in The Hague Rita Reys, legendary Dutch jazz singer will be performing side by side with the Peter Beets Trio.

In her long and successful career, started over than six decades ago, Rita Reys has won several awards both in the Netherlands and abroad. In 1960 at the International Jazz Festival in Juan Les Pins (France) she was officially designated “Europe’s First Lady of Jazz”.

Rita Reys has worked in Europe and has performed in early years in the States. In 1956 the record producer George Avakian (Columbia) invited her to the US, where she had chance to meet famous jazz musicians. She started her career as a jazz singer at the Sheherazade Club in Amsterdam with her first husband’s sextet.

Over the years Rita Reys has also proved to be a much more versatile vocalist by giving a personal version of other musical repertoires, among others Burt Bacharach’s compositions.

At De Regentenkamer Rita Reys will be on stage with the Peter Beets Trio. This is a musical cooperation that dates back in 2004 when together they recorded an album called “Beautiful Love”.

Peter Beets is a Dutch musician, who has embarked on a very appreciated worldwide career as a jazz pianist. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and started performing along with his brothers. He has won several prizes and has played and toured in several countries in Europe, as well in Japan and in the States.

The CD called “New Groove” has been recorded in New York with American and Dutch musicians. His trio includes Martijn van Iterson (guitar) and Ruud Jacobs (bass).

It is wonderful to see how different generations of performers can work together on stage and capture the audience through the ageless charm of Jazz.
