World Sessions: Marta Gomez sings at Korzo Theatre

(Mon 30 January 2012)

On Sunday, 12 February, the Colombian singer-songwriter Marta Gomez will perform at the Korzo Theatre.

Let the voice of this warm and radiating Colombiana carry you into the soul of Latin-America. She will combine her nostagic folk-songs with cheerful jazz and bossa nova influences. Marta Gomez has won over 15 awards for best songs, best albums and in 2006 she was proclaimed "Best National World-Music artist" at the Boston Phoenix awards.

Marta has been described as "turning the bitter history of her native country into sweet music." She is inspired by the stories of everyday life of South Americans and looks all over the continent for inspiration to turn the stories into music. Her repetoire includes Chilean, Bolivian and Argentine forms of music, though Marta has also played onstage with international musicians such as John Mayer and Bonnie Raitt.

For literature enthusiasts: Marta has composed a song based on Isabelle Allende's novel Paula, called Paula Ausente, and on her album El Corazón y el Sombrero, Marta, in a tribute to Federico García Lorca, has transformed twelve of his poems into songs.

She will be playing at Korzo as part of the World Sessions initiative, promoting music from all over the world. The afternoon will include a film, an interview, the concert and a meet and greet with Marta Gomez after the show!
