7th Annual October Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
The American Women’s Club of The Hague (AWC) is proud to be hosting the reception to launch the 7th Annual October Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, recognising that Pink Has No Boundaries. The reception will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the conclusion of the Kanker in Beeld art exhibition.
Throughout the years, the AWC has been a major contributor and fundraiser in the fight against breast cancer in the Netherlands; donating over one million Euros to fund research, education and advocacy programs. Breast cancer occurs in 1 of every 8 women and will result in the death of 35% of these victims. Breast cancer is universal; it has no boundaries and affects women, men and families throughout the world.
The AWC is very proud to be collaborating with the Stichting Kanker in Beeld, which is hosting an exhibition of art works produced by cancer survivors. The Kanker in Beeld art exhibition and symposium at the Grote Kerk in The Hague is open to the public, from September 11 through October 1, 2009. This exhibition is supported by the KWF (the Queen Wilhelmina Foundation), the largest Dutch cancer foundation.
Guests of Honor will be the US Deputy Chief of Mission, Michael Gallagher and his wife Martha, along with the US Consul General Julie Ruterbories. Dr. Onno Guicherit, of the Bronovo Hospital, will be the keynote speaker. They will be joined by ambassadors, business leaders, and leading medical professionals; as well as members of breast cancer organisations: Borstkanker Vereniging Nederland, The Stichting Pink Ribbon, A Sister’s Hope and Stichting Kanker in Beeld.
During the reception, there will be a raffle of paintings and a live auction of a painting entitled The Tree of Hope, donated by John Proctor. Christie’s Auctioneer, Ms. Leila de Vos van Steenwijk will conduct the auction. The proceeds from the auction and raffle will be donated to the Stichting Kanker-in-Beeld (www.kankerinbeeld.nl).
