Grammy Award winning Brazilian artists Vanessa da Mata and Daniel Jobim (grandson of legendary composer Antonio Carlos Jobim) will visit the Netherlands on 24 and 25 August for two unique concerts with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra! Brasil Sinfônico is a celebration of Brazilian music and this second edition marks the 60th anniversary of Bossa Nova.
Bossa Nova is a movement within Brazilian music that has started in the late 1950’s. Spearheading the movement are the legendary singers/composers Antonio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto, Vinicius de Moraes and the young generation from the south of Rio de Janeiro. The English version of “The Girl from Ipanema” (performed by Astrud Gilberto) has become Brazil’s biggest international hit, even to this day.
Born in Mato Grosso, Vanessa da Mata is a Latin Grammy Award-Winning Brazilian Singer and Songwritter. Vanessa produced many successfull albums that included number one hits in Brazil. Recently, she released “Vanessa da Mata Canta Tom Jobim”, a special tribute to one of the most important Brazilian songwritters, Tom Jobim.
Daniel Jobim is a pianist, singer and Brazilian composer from Rio de Janeiro. Son of guitarist Paulo Jobim and grandson of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Daniel has recorded and performed alongside his legendary grandfather and other great artists. Daniel is a Grammy Award winner in the category Best Latin Jazz Performance – as producer of the album “Antonio Brasileiro” by Tom Jobim.
