For seven years, he was bandleader, arranger, and keyboardist with the legendary Fela Kuti and then for years with his son Femi. This fact alone makes the Nigerian musician Dele Sosimi one of the key figures of afrobeat.
After the release of his first solo album in 2002, he played at the Montreux festival; he shared the stage with Joe Zawinul, afrobeat drummer Tony Allen, and even rapper Ty. But Sosimi is also an ardent afrobeat ambassador: he leads his own foundation and teaches at the London Metropolitan University.
Now the ‘professor of afrobeat’ presents this extremely danceable mixture of heavy funk grooves, rhythmic singing, brass, and African percussion to The Hague.
