Movies that Matter on Tour presents the film Insyriated. With English subtitles.
In an apartment in modern Syria, the energetic Oum Yazan desperately tries to hold her family together while bombs are raining outside. The film portrays how the family is at the table and everyone tries to understand each other, beyond the roar of the war violence. There’s little foods or water, but going out is life-threatening. Everywhere there are sharpshooters.
A claustrophobic, compelling film by a Belgian director about twenty-four hours from the lives of people living in the midst of a war area. Insyriated won the Panorama Audience Award and the Label Europe Cinemas at the Berlinale.
Our special guest is Amer Shanati, a Palestinian musician born in Syria. He had to flee twice for his safety. Amer plays the Ud (Arabic lute) and studied at the Music Institute in Homs (Syria) and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
