Title defender and home favorite Joost Luiten will compete in the KLM Open 2017 with Lee Westwood, Andy Sullivan, Chris Wood and Bernd Wiesberger. This European Tour tournament is from 14 to 17 September.
The tournament will again be played at The Dutch in Spijk and features a number of eye-catching innovations.
The four announced players are all in top 70 of the world rankings. Bernd Wiesberger in 29th place is the highest-ranked player. The Austrian came second in last year’s KLM Open.
The English trio Westwood, Sullivan and Wood were part of last year’s European Ryder Cup team. Lee Westwood, the former world number one, won the Dutch Open in 1999. Chris Wood is participating for the tenth time at the event. Andy Sullivan will be playing his fourth KLM Open. In 2014, he achieved his best result, third place at Kennemer and won a “space trip” with a hole-in-one.
New Layout Hole 14 – Beat the pro
Last year the KLM Open had a special premiere. For the first time, amateurs got the chance to compete in one hole during a European Tour tournament. On the par-3 14th hole, on Thursday and Saturday an amateur per flight tried to hit the ball closer to the hole than the professionals. Five amateurs succeeded.
This year Beat the Pro returns to the KLM Open again at hole 14 (par-3, 122 meters), however this year, more attention will be paid to the experience for players and the public. The Beat the Pro hole will be fully enclosed by stands and hospitality lounges. That should further contribute to stadium experience at this hole.
This year, anyone who buys a ticket online will receive a Ziggo Sport KLM Open Radio gift.
