Not only Mondriaan’s colours will be seen all around The Hague this year, on October 14 you’ll also hear the sounds of the art from the Dutch painter. The Mondriaan Jazz Festival #MJAZZ will be spreading all over the Hague’s ‘popdistrict’ and is landing on multiple locations, such as Grote Markt, Koorenhuis, Humanity House and Paard.
The love Piet Mondriaan had for jazz, is being translating into an international music festival, is that even possible? For sure it is! MJAZZ’s line-up is full of great names, but also gives upcoming jazz artists around the world a stage to perform.
The infamous New York jazzscene is the central point of attention for the festival, especially because Mondriaan received a lot of inspiration out of all the subcultures New York has.
At MJAZZ, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane will bring a unique and one time performance playing songs from Canto Ostinato, but also artist like Nate Smith KINFOLKS, Evan Marien x Dan Hawkins and soul talent Rohey will be seen at the festival.
Other international artists bring their talents to the Hague, think about FORQ, Jaimo Brown Transence, Mamal Hands, Jamire Williams and Indian singer Ganavya Doraiswamy. Moonchild and local pianist Rembrandt Frerichs complete the line-up.
Next to all the great music you can find an interesting side program, with the documentary ‘Chasing Train: The John Coltrane Documentary’ and with your festival ticket you can get free access to the Gemeentemuseum to see Mondriaan’s vinyl collection.
