Unique performance in Oude Kerk Scheveningen: The High Kings (Ireland) @ Oude Kerk (Scheveningen)

Popagenda Scheveningen and 1900 Aan Zee are proud to present a unique performance inOude Kerk in Scheveningen. On Wednesday, November 29th, 2017 (8pm), the Irish band The High Kings will be playing this remarkable location in the heart of Scheveningen. The atmospheric old church, built in the 15th century, is perfectly suited for the Irish traditional music of The High Kings. The band will be in The Netherlands to promote the release of their album Grace & Glory, that will be released in Benelux on November 17th (Sony/Celtic Collections).

The High KingsThe true heirs of Ireland’s folk heritage
For over thousand years, Ireland was ruled by high kings, until their reign ended by invaders from the North. Their heroic deeds remained the stuff of legends and songs, until Finbarr Clancy (a son of one of The Clancy Brothers), Martin Furey (son of Finbar Furey, who secured multiple hits with The Fureys), Brian Dunphy and Darren Holden (who both performed in Riverdance, with over 25 million visitors worldwide) started The High Kings in 2008. The four of them were raised in the Irish musical tradition and are truly honoured to be representing a new generation of Irish folk music. The High Kings, often referred to as “the true heirs of Ireland’s folk heritage,” are charting a new course for Irish ballad music. Equal parts rousing and reflective, energetic and insightful, they are marking out a new and bright era for Irish folk music and aiming to bring a broad demographic along for the journey.

Most successful modern traditional band in Ireland
The High Kings are, beyond doubt, the most successful traditional band to come out of Ireland in years. In their first year they were crowned Irish Folk Band Of The Year. They have sold out hundreds of shows, in Ireland, Europe and the United States, sold millions of albums and appeared on numerous TV shows.

Legendary live performances
The High Kings showcase their incredible versatility and skills as multi-instrumentalists, playing 13 instruments between the four of them, bringing a rousing acoustic flavour to brand new songs as well as some old favourites. The High Kings’ live shows are legendary across the world, enjoyed by millions of music fans over their nine-year career. Their unique brand of high-octane balladry and folk has won them numerous accolades. Audience participation is a must.
