Irish Ballads and a Dutcheriedoo
World Music in a local haunt brings Irish ballads and a 'Dutcheriedoo'
It's all about the music at Lokaal Vredebreuk. Though this is very much a 'Dutch' cafe, you can never be sure what kind of music you're going to find there. Giving space and stage to all manner of performances and genres, from up-and-coming singer-songwriters, to internatinally acclaimed artists such as the avante-garde Luke Nyman.
An evening with the ever-popular 'Simple Green' is in store, and with the cold weather outside, a warm dram and some of their hearfelt melodies will go down a treat. The four men are: Kees Bakker on spoons, bones, eggs, bodhran and Dutcheriedoo; guitarist Geert Janssen; Anand Passchier on guitar, fiddle and mandolin; and fiddler Jeroen van Wijk. These four have found their own sound, while building a wide repertoire of Irish and Scottish music. Trading singing duties, the foursome have built a great harmony vocally and musically, and their wild improvisations mean that there is always a hint of danger in the air. Drama and balladry, does it get anymore Irish than that?
Performing throughout the country, 'Simple Green' are also stalwart festival performers, including a session at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Perhaps more impressively, they've toured Ireland, and brought back fans. You can catch Simple Green at Lokaal Vredebreuk on the first Tuesday of every month from 9 p.m. Tickets are free.
