World music plays at the Paard during PopHotSpot Festival
The free music festival PopHotSpot takes place on the Grote Markt in The Hague from now until Sunday, 3 June. With an imressive line-up of artists and genres, from pop to pop, funk, rock, jazz to electro, PopHotSpot offers fun for all ages. orld music also finds a place at this diverse event, with several concerts taking place at the Paad van Troje. The Basily Gipsy Band and Blue Flamingo are two bands offering swinging sounds those with a hankering for music with cultural flair.
The Basily Gipsy Band has developed its own identity with traditional Spanish gypsy influences over the years. With their charismatic stage presence and enigmatic appeal, this band knows how to impress their audience. Basily has built quite a reputation at home and abroad, and are considered one of the best and most original gypsy formations. Basily has gained a solid reputation both nationally and abroad. The have performed at almost every jazz and theater stage in the Netherlands, including multiple times at the North Sea Jazz festival.
From performances at the Jak festival in Indonesia, the famous Django Reinhard festival of Samois France, the world renowned Birdland jazz club in New York and many jazz festivals in Italy and Scandinavia, their reputation abroad continues to grow. A highlight for the band was a performance with the legendary Stephane Grapelli and performing at the private parties of The Rolling Stones and Jeff Beck in London. Blue Flamingo takes audiences on a journey through a jungle of old 78-RPM records, with bygone tunes that will give one the feeling of being in the middle of an old cartoon film set.
From cheerful jazz from the '20s and '30s, to jazzy jungle sounds with an African touch, the Paard is transformed into an exotic, sultry square during PopHotSpot with Ziya Ertekin (aka Blue Flamingo) at the helm. Don't miss his 2 June appearance at 15:00!
