The Secretary of State for Finance has announced the start of a major project to improve the tone of letters sent out by the Inland Revenue to the public, saying that he personally found some of them upsetting. There are thousands of different standard letters, with 150 million documents being sent every year. The most frequently occurring letters will be made ‘people-friendly’ by this summer.
