If you like music, get your diaries and agendas open now! The weekend of 22nd, 23rd and 24th of June sees Holland’s music capital, The Hague put on a spectacular music festival in the beautiful surroundings of the Zuiderpark.
The first event was in 1981 and since then has become one of the largest free music festivals in Europe. The first festival was just on the Sunday. This year it is spread over three days. The free Sunday entertainment attracts on average a crowd of around 200,000. It really is a friendly, easy going event, never any problems, whole families enjoying an eclectic mix of music from performers who fly in from all over the world.
On Friday there will be many bands performing in the city at the Grote Markt, the Paard and in the Zwarte Ruiter. To see the Friday agenda, click HERE.
The Saturday sees some big stars on stage at the paid “Night in the Park”. Kim Wilde, Jason Donovan, Clouseau, Hot Chocolate, former Spice Girl, Melanie C, The Boss (Top Bruce Springsteen tribute act) are the night’s highlights, plus many more. Tickets are still available HERE
The main event on Sunday is 100% FREE! The names listed to appear so far already include the huge Dutch band, BLØF. They will be a huge draw to the main stage, one of six stages to watch a variety of bands, styles and some of the more unusual acts. Others are DeWolff, Roachford, The Fratellis, Bökkers and many many more.
In the festival grounds, there are plenty to keep the kids occupied, plenty of food and other refreshment stalls. The whole of the Den Haag community gathers to party the day away. People also travel from all over Europe to attend and join in the festivities.
The number of 200,000 can sound too big and off putting, yet surprisingly, it is very open and easy to walk around to get from place to place within Zuiderpark itself.
So add the dates to your calendar, arrange to meet up with friends, or go alone to make new friends. It is such an easy going weekend, everyone is welcomed with open arms. Don’t miss pout on one of the best events in this beautiful city.
