Monday, July 23 will mark the start of Roverway, an international event for scouts between 16 and 22 years from all over Europe, organised once every three years. First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans will make the opening and will talk to the scouts. After the opening show, the 4,500 scouts will spend the night at the beach.
On Monday, the 4,500 scouts participating in Roverway are expected in the Netherlands. The day starts with various activities in The Hague and Scheveningen. After this the official opening show will follow and finally the scouts will spend the night at the beach of Scheveningen. The next day they leave with buses to various locations in the Netherlands for the start of the paths.
The organization of Roverway 2018 is unique because the event is managed by a group of young people with the average age of 24 years. They are the head of all teams and are supported in this by more experienced scouts in the role of supporter.
Scouts from more than 50 countries are participating in Roverway 2018. They start with an overnight stay on the beach, after which they go through the Netherlands in groups of about 50 scouts for six days on their Path. During this Path phase participants are challenged to discover themselves, to be active and to have fun. Then they travel to Scoutinglandgoed Zeewolde, where a joint camp takes place.
Worldwide, more than 40 million children and young people are members of Scouting in more than 150 countries and territories. Thanks to Scouting, these young people are connected to each other. To make international meetings possible, Scouting organizations organize worldwide international camps and Jamborees. Scouting Nederland will organize the European event Roverway in the summer of 2018.
