Births, graduations, weddings … the Dutch are dedicated to marking life’s special moments in style. This summer, if you have a special event you want to celebrate with friends or guests from overseas, head over to Zanzibar Beachclub.

Lieke Priester, co-owner of the Scheveningen beach restaurant, has organised events for groups ranging from 10 to 700. ‘I graduated from the Hotel School in The Hague,’ she explains, ‘because I always wanted to work in the hospitality business.’ Joining her partner Lex Geraerdts to run Zanzibar was a no brainer. ‘The beach environment is a way of life rather than a job. And it is one that we love. People come here not just for a meal; coming to the beach is an outing, an event in itself.’

You can just drop in to the restaurant for a meal, a snack, a drink. But with a group, the experience becomes more fun. A barbecue dinner can be combined with a Salsa lesson; a sand sculpting workshop with lunch by the sea; or a morning yoga session with a healthy breakfast. Or get the gang together for a hilarious game of Bumper Ball and then sink in to well-deserved cocktails as the sun sets on the North Sea.
