During the Christmas holidays, from Tuesday 25 up to and including Friday 28 December, you can enjoy Alice in Winterwonderland in the Zuiderstrandtheater in The Hague. A dazzling, imaginative fairy tale from The Dutch Do not Dance Division and the Residentie Orkest with amazing dance and wonderful music in beautiful sets. An enchanting feel-good festival for young and old.
After the unprecedented success in 2016, the Dutch Do not Dance Division and Residentie Orkest once again work together on this bizarre fairytale to the famous Lewis Carroll story on Tchaikovsky’s ballet music, inventively edited by Carl Davis. Thom Stuart, the artistic leader of DDDDD, tells this mysterious and immersive story with as brilliant as surprising dances. The beautiful sets are inspired by the wonderful world of the famous graphic artist M.C. Escher. 52 musicians and 85 dancers in no less than 260 fanciful costumes make this wonderful Christmas production a feast for all the senses.
The role of the White Queen in Alice in Winterwonderland is played by the famous and beautiful Adji Cissoko, top dancer at the Alonzo King Lines Ballet in San Francisco. Thom Stuart: “Adji is the ideal dancer for this role. With her impressive 1.80 meters she towers high above Alice, our little Kenza Lee. Because of her bizarrely long legs that effect is even more enhanced. Adji is not only a technically perfect dancer, she also has a lot of fun playing the bitchy White Queen, who is swept off the chessboard by Alice’s fault. ”
