Chinese New Year in The Hague @ The Hague City Hall

While 2019 has only just begun, people are already busy preparing for the Chinese New Year. On 5 February 2019 the Year of the Dog will end and the Year of the Pig starts. That is celebrated in the Hague on Saturday 9 February.

The new chairman of the “Organization Rural Chinese New Year 2019”, Mr. Yun Piao Lin, is working together with his team to prepare an extensive program. In addition to the usual fireworks on the Spuiplein, the lion and dragon tours through Chinatown and the festivities in the Atrium of the Town Hall, there is now a parade to the Square, live performances at the entrance to the House of Representatives and perhaps also short performances at other locations, such as in Scheveningen and the Statenkwartier. A very preliminary overview of the festivities can be found under Program.

Together with his team, Mr. Yun Piao Lin visited the municipality of The Hague last year to meet Richard de Mos, alderman of Economy, Sports, Outdoor space (ESB), also deputy mayor of The Hague and Henk Kool, chairman of the “Economic Board The Hague” and chairman of the Netherlands China Association (VNC).

On this occasion Richard de Mos emphasized the importance of good relations with China and the Chinese community in the Netherlands. “I hope that the national celebration of the Chinese New Year in The Hague will again be a great success. The municipality of The Hague will be committed to this in cooperation with Chinatown The Hague and the Chinese community in the Netherlands “according to Richard de Mos.

Henk Kool emphasized that the establishment of foreign companies in The Hague is vital for the economic development of The Hague. “It is very exciting to be active from now on in the socio-cultural field from VNC and from the business world in and with China. The celebration of the Chinese New Year in The Hague is an excellent opportunity to bring people from these two worlds into contact with each other “.
