Free the Word: Oxfam Novib PEN Award Night @ Theater aan het Spui

Yazbek, born in Jableh, Syria received the PEN Pinter Award, the PEN Tucholsky Award and the PEN Oxfam Novib Award for her In the crossfire (2011). In 2016, she received the Best Foreign Book Award for The Crossing in France. Her work has appeared in more than 15 languages ​​and in 2018 Yazbek was on the shortlist of the Prix Femina with her novel La marcheuse, recently published in Dutch under the title De blauw pen , an edition of Orlando in collaboration with Oxfam Novib.

The presentation of the prestigious Oxfam Novib PEN Award by Oxfam Novib director Michiel Servaes honors authors who today, at the risk of their freedom and life, seek and propagate the truth.

After the presentation, the winner will talk to, on behalf of PEN Netherlands, writer and journalist Hassnae Bouazza and Nieuwsuur-presenter Eelco Bosch van Rosenthal about her or his oeuvre and experiences. The winner then nominates from his own work. Spoken in English.
