Angelika Overrath presents her book “Ein Winter in Istanbul“. Moderation by Manfred Koch, literary scholar and essayist. The event will be held in German.
For one winter, Cla, a religious teacher from the Engadine, wants to work on the Constantinople Mission of Cusanus. But then he meets the Turkish waiter Baran. He takes him to his Istanbul: they roam markets, drink tea on the Bosphorus ferries, go to the hammam. In their conversations, the late medieval Byzantium clashes with the politically and religiously divided Istanbul of the present. At a secret meeting of dervishes, Cla experiences closeness to Sufism and Christian mysticism. And Cla falls in love with Baran. But then comes Alva, the fiancee from Switzerland, to visit.
