The preparations for the 48th International Film Festival Rotterdam are in full swing and the first films have been confirmed. IFFR welcomes thousands of visitors from around the globe and is of course very expat friendly!
Some film highlights: Lazzaro Felice, an Italian film about an unexpected friendship between Lazzaro, a naive and optimistic twenty-year-old farmer, and Tancredi, a young man with a fervid imagination. Over time, the two face many difficulties together, until Tancredi makes his tracks lose in the city, and Lazzaro sets out to search for him. Lazzaro Felice was the winner of Best Screenplay at Cannes Film Festival 2018.
Or Vox Lux, which follows the rise of Celeste from the ashes of a major national tragedy to pop superstardom. The film spans 18 years and traces important cultural moments through her eyes, starting in 1999 and concluding in 2017. With Natalie Portman and Jude Law. Sia and Scott Walker wrote the soundtrack.
By having the newest feature films, documentaries, shorts, exhibitions, performances and masterclasses and talks, Rotterdam will be the exciting, worldwide capital of film for twelve days. As always, there will be special programmes at the festival where you can find combinations of art, (new) media and film.
Besides that, the heart of the festival, de Doelen, is a great meeting place for a drink and a bite, live performances, debates and Q&As with filmmakers and actors. Each film night will be closed with Dance Dance Dance, a lively party with DJs from Rotterdam in Rotterdam Theatre.
The full programme will be available online on Wednesday 16 January. The official ticket sale starts Friday 18 January.
