Den Haag (Scheveningen)
A great blazin ‘blues night by the sea!
Katvanger will once again play Blaze & Co’s extensive repertoire of “dubious blues, tangled roots, and counterfeit country” (among others) on the newest blues stage in The Hague with Blaze & Co (Scheveningen).
Katvanger offers a suspicious version of the blues, narrating from previously unknown encounters with shady characters from both nearby and distant places on this planet. The trio consists of bassist Ruud Fransen, a university teacher who has been retired since time immemorial, guitarist Jan Vereçki, a part-time IT hobbyist with an ever-expanding collection of low-budget string instruments and the originally American singer / guitarist Jim Wake, whose whiskey has been scoured by whiskey voice seems to contradict his alleged problem-free middle-class background.
Their songs tell about pain, deception and loneliness – themes that have already been sung by generations of blues artists – but in addition, Katvanger’s extensive repertoire of mainly his own compositions contains a good dose of irony and sarcasm, brightened up with a healthy portion of singing and swing.
Katvanger brings you a semi-acoustic potpourri of heart-rending blues, uprooted roots, lawless country & western and coincidence-driven jazz, seasoned here and there with an obscure cover.
Note: slightly subversive, but very contagious.
