11 days filled with premieres, special film events, parties, and more: that’s the Leiden International Film Festival. Founded in 2006 and currently one of the Netherlands’ most important film festivals. The 2019 edition will take place from October 31 to November 10, and will feature over 100 films from all over the globe, ranging from arthouse to mainstream, and everything in between.
What do you think? We are of course very subjective, but even we know festivals that are better than LIFF. However, LIFF has been growing nonstop for fourteen years. More than 40,000 visitors came to the festival in 2018. Those people did not come to the best festival in the world. But where did they come from?
LIFF is a festival that loves fun. A cheeky festival with bold programming. A fresh festival where many young talents are discovered. An accessible festival where both film nobs and popcorn viewers feel welcome.
Now that we’ve written it down… aren’t we still the best film festival in the world?
Most likely not… the campaign for LIFF 2019 revolves around the cheeky wink. Why big ourselves up unnecessarily with slogans that we cannot live up to? LIFF is a fantastic festival, but there are probably one or two festivals in the world that are better. In Leiden, on the other hand…
