Fascinating interplay of subdued piano music and expressive dance
After a successful tour, positive reactions and a nomination for the Swan – the Dutch Oscar of dance – for dancer Jozefien Debaillie, ‘Pas de Deux’ is back in the theater and can also be admired in Theater de Veste on Wednesday 20 February.
In the choreography of Ed Wubbe the live piano music by Michiel Borstlap is the engine for dance. ‘Pas de Deux’ is a dance concert in which two worlds come together. The music of Michiel Borstlap is crystal clear and impressive because of its simplicity and harmony. Wubbe’s dance is expressive, disruptive and dynamic.
The combination and the confrontation between the two produces a fascinating performance. One moment light-hearted and serene, the other passionate and exciting. The warm piano playing of Borstlap gets a deeper meaning through the dance, which requires no further explanation. “Particularly pleasant, light-footed, serene and contemplative.” (De Volkskrant ****)
20 February performance is at the Theatre De Veste, Delft
24 March performance is at Zuiderstrandtheater, Den Haag
