Catrin Finch (UK, Wales) and Seckou Keita (Senegal) bring a mixture of age-old melodies from Wales and West Africa. In 2012 the duo became acquainted with each other and with each other’s instruments for the first time. She plays the classical harp, he the African harp, the kora. There are remarkable similarities between these two instruments. Although the duo has a completely different musical background, Mandika rhytmes and songs from Wales have found each other. Catrin has performed all over the world, both as a soloist and with top orchestras. She has recorded her music with Universal Records, Deutsche Grammophon, EMI and Sony Classical. Seckou Keita has played with Paul Simon and Miriam Makeba, among others. He comes from a royal family of griots. Already in 2001, he was nominated for the BBC Radio 3 World Music Award. You will also hear Keita during this double concert with the AKA Trio, along with Antonio Forcione (guitar) and Adriano Adewale (percussion). Antonia Forcione played among others with Charlie Haden, Trilok Gurtu and Angelique Kidjo.
