Radar Love Exhibition

Forty-five years ago that the biggest hit of the Dutch band Golden Earring was released. Radar Love gave the group their international breakthrough. As a tribute to the song, visual artists Marcello and Els from The Hague Rock Gallery organize an exhibition with Radar Love as their theme.

For the exhibition, the duo invited eleven colleagues to get started with the song. The participants who have responded to this are Cees van Rutten, Fenneke Weltevree, Freek Henkes, Hilbert Krane, Jack Wilms, Judy van Meeteren, Marike Cools, Mark Pistoor, Marko Klomp and Milja de Zwart.

Radar Love reached the first place in the Netherlands at the end of 1973 and then the top 10 in Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. During their tour of the United States in the summer of 1974, the group reached the thirteenth position in the Billboard Hot 100 with Radar Love.

Best driving song

The song was chosen as ‘ultimate driving song’ due to its theme and groove and was prominently featured in the 2017 Baby Driver action. The song was covered more than 500 times, by Homer Simpson and even own website. It was also parodied as Radar Sucks.

Marcello and Els have illustrated the complete number themselves. With every sentence of Radar Love that is deep in their Hague DNA – a drawing has been made. The final result of this, along with the work of the other eleven visual artists, will be on show at Rock Gallery in The Hague from December 9th.
