From Thursday 12 to Monday 23 December 2019, the romantic Lange Voorhout will be transformed into the Royal Christmas Fair for no fewer than twelve days. For the sixth time, this unique and attractive Christmas market will brighten the atmosphere of the centre of The Hague.
The Royal Christmas Fair will once again occupy the heart of the historic centre of The Hague, enchanting what may be the most beautiful avenue in the Netherlands. Surrounded by the Binnenhof, Noordeinde Palace, embassies, museums, and atmospheric shopping areas such as Denneweg, Plaats, Hofkwartier and Noordeinde. More than 100 Christmas stalls, an illuminated canopy of 100,000 twinkling LEDs and the beautiful surroundings will ensure the ultimate, almost un-Dutch, Christmas atmosphere.
EXPERIENCE THE HAGUE
Thanks to the unique location, a visit to the Royal Christmas Fair can be perfectly scheduled within a day’s outing or combined with an overnight stay in The Hague. An afternoon of shopping in the city centre, a breath of fresh air on the beach at Scheveningen, or a great time at one of the many restaurants or lively bars.
The programme of the Royal Christmas Fair is extremely varied. In addition to the atmospheric decorations with fire and a multitude of lights, there will be Christmas actors, (children’s) choirs, the one and only Santa Claus, cultural activities and performances.
What you should absolutely not miss this year?
– Spectacular opening of the Christmas fair: Thursday 12 December, 17h00
Festive opening of the Christmas fair with the lighting of the Swedish Christmas tree in front of the Escher museum by mayor Pauline Krikke and the ambassador of Sweden. The lighting of the Christmas tree, in honour of the celebration of the Scandinavian holiday Santa Lucia, marks the start of the Christmas season. After the lighting of the tree, the Christmas fair will be bathed in brightness.
– Christmas Sing-Along: Thursday 19 December
Start lubricating those vocal cords, because during this Christmas Sing-Along visitors can sing their favourite songs in an almost magical atmosphere.
– Gospel Night: Saturday 21 December
A professional choir, an organist and a conductor are the elements that guarantee a swinging and lively evening.
The Royal Christmas Fair is open every day from 12h00 to 21h00. Entrance is free of charge. The event is easily accessible by car, bicycle and public transport and is located within walking distance of the Central Station. The main entrances to the Christmas market are situated at the Kloosterkerk (corner Parkstraat/Lange Voorhout), Hotel Des Indes (Denneweg) and at Tournooiveld.
