A drum performance of two hours by no less than two thousand drummers is happening on September 9! Visitors of Feest aan Zee can enjoy this free of charge from 4 pm on Scheveningen beach. Cesar Zuiderwijk, drummer of the band Golden Earring, created the huge group known as Four Horizons. The concert is officially registered with Guinness Book of Records for the largest number of drummers on one beach!
During the program there will be special acts by Michael Schack, Percossa, De Drumbassadors and Drum Demons, the new percussion group from Cesar Zuiderwijk and Koen Herfst. The participating drummers come from all over the Netherlands. A number of internationally known drummers also participate. The percussionists are divided into four continents: North represents European and American drum sets or snare drums. Japanese taiko’s and tom-toms make the East rise, South finds its rhythm through Brazilian samba drums and congas. Africa gets its sound through djembés.
Twenty-six years ago, Zuiderwijk once performed with a thousand drummers a spectacle as the final of the Rotterdam World Port Days. “I always wanted to exceed that performance from 1992. This year everything fell together. The Hague celebrates Feest aan Zee at the bicentenary of the seaside resort of Scheveningen. With Golden Earring we are at Live on the Beach three days earlier. Thanks to funds from Feest aan Zee, our dream became a reality! The puzzle pieces fell into each other. It will be an apotheosis of two hours, with many surprises and a beautiful noise.”
