If the packed trams and bicycle traffic heading north-west have any message for us, it’s this: when the sun comes out, The Hague heads for the beach.

Though the weather might be less-than-tropical, the Dutch seem to have an attitude of fake-it-until-you-make-it. All along the boulevard are ice cream stalls, longboarders, surfing schools, trampolines and, of course, the beachbars, and they all offer a different slice of summer.

But faced with all the choice, where do you go? This is the reason why Zanzibar Beachclub, located in front of the iconic Kurhaus, provide their visitors with the chance to combine lunch or dinner with a workshop operated by one of the other businesses on the beach.

“We can arrange everything for you,” says Lieke Priester, manager of Zanzibar Beachclub. “For bachelor parties, birthdays, company getaways, or whatever the occasion, we can organise the extras.”

The most popular activity, Lieke lets on, are the cocktail workshops. These one-hour-long workshops teach you to combine the freshest ingredients with your spirit of choice, and can be tailored for teetotallers.

The range of activites on offer are as follows: bumperball games, kitesurfing lessons, salsa workshops, sandsculpting workshops, djembe drum workshops, graffiti workshops, powerboat rides, capoeira workshops, and the enigmatic Robinson Expeditions.

“For the Robinson Expeditions, taking after Robinson Crusoe, a group divides into teams and completes 6 or 7 team-building activities on the beach,” explains Lieke.

But of course, the day would not be complete without some hearty cuisine to complement strenuous activity. After an hour or two of fun in the (hopefully) sun, Zanzibar can also provide groups with ‘Cook it yourself barbeques’.

For these, groups of up to 30-40 people will be provided with portable barbeques, and left to grill to their heart’s desire. For groups of 40+, or those who simply would rather relax than suffer amicable arguments of who’s the best burger chef, a private chef can be provided.
