De Bonte Koe is a family chocolate business which started in a 300-year-old gin distillery on Schiedam’s Lange Haven in 1992. They are best known for their unique bonbons and freshly made bouchées which are now available in The Hague at Korte Poten 57, just a few steps from the Plein.
To celebrate the opening of the new store the company has created the city’s very own chocolate bar: the Haagse Hopje, inspired by the famous coffee-caramel sweet which originated in The Hague in the 18th Century. This delicious confection is available in dark and milk chocolate and is a must try for all Hagenaars!
Even before you step into the beautifully restored former butcher’s shop your attention is drawn by the unusual window display of a giant chocolate sculpture of a bull’s head and the divine smell of chocolate fondue gently wafting through the door. Once inside, the wow factor of a huge display of strikingly elegant chocolates and original seasonal gifts is complete. Now all you have to do is choose….and since this might take a while, you have reason to linger in this chocolate heaven!
If you’re looking for a gift, look no further than De Bonte Koe’s Autumn collection of original and elegant creations, such as the hazelnut or the Herfst Plate.
Or you can choose from a wide selection of more traditional bonbons and bouchées available in store or online at their webshop. All the chocolates are freshly made each Monday by an enthusiastic team of international confectioners, led by Master chocolatier, Cees Klein, who has been working with chocolate for 40 years!
Chocolate lovers can also take part in one of De Bonte Koe’s imaginative chocolate workshops or masterclasses. Groups of 6-10 friends or work colleagues have an opportunity to create their very own chocolate selection from preparing the filling to coating and decorating each bonbon individually.
The Feel at Home team, having taken part in such a workshop can thoroughly recommend both the workshops and the chocolates! As well as being great fun, it is a wonderful insight into the care and craftsmanship which goes into every single chocolate at De Bonte Koe.
