The province of Zuid Holland has decided to enforce a temporary ban on bathing at the zandmotor area of reclaimed coast, between Westland and The Hague.
On Friday, a male swimmer came into difficulties in the area and was pulled from the water.
He was declared dead after other beach goers and lifeguards failed to resuscitate him.
Previously, there was a swimming ban in force at the zandmotor at the end of July.
It was partly lifted, because according to the rescue brigades of The Hague and the Westland, they were "sufficiently prepared to intervene if anything went wrong".
One of the most dangerous areas of the zandmotor is where a channel floods into a lake during tidal surges.
Beachgoers have been caught trying to cross it.
