Festival Het Circus attracted more than 10,000 visitors to the De Verademing neighborhood park on 7, 8 and 9 September. Despite the crowds, there were no serious incidents and everyone had a great time. The anniversary edition of the festival will be on 6, 7 and 8 September 2019.
This year there were 6 areas each with its own theme: Kids, Green Energy, Body & Mind, DIY, Music Park and the Secret Garden. Visitors could also enjoy two days of community camping, demonstrations, lectures, bands and DJs, the Groen Gèle theater tour of De CultuurBrouwerij and the Nieuwe Energie Bootcamp with which Duurzaam Den Haag got visitors moving.
What the festival will look like next year is still a mystery. Every year, diligent efforts are made to involve local residents, schools, district organizations and entrepreneurs from the neighborhood to jointly shape the festival. “Every year it is a surprise to see what the festival will look like. Of course there are the basic elements such as sustainability, the festival style and the relaxed atmosphere, but what can be seen and experienced is decided each year with the district. For next year, the conversations started during the 2018 festival itself. Dozens of residents have already signed up to participate next year”, says Jay Navarro Oviedo, initiator of Festival Het Circus.
Alderman and residents enthusiastic to participate in Het Circus
Residents from the Regentesse and Valkenboskwartier in The Hague organize the Het Circus Festival for the fourth year in a row. Alderman mobility, culture and strategy, Robert van Asten, is also very enthusiastic about Festival Het Circus and wants to work for future editions in the coming years. “District and culture really come together at this festival. This is important for the city. I want to commit myself to this! ”
The festival is made possible by more than 120 volunteers from the neighborhood, but certainly also by the Municipality of The Hague, VoorWelzijn, Fonds 1818, Cultuurschakel, Versluijs wijnhandel, VSB Fonds and the Oranje Fonds. Entrepreneurs from the neighborhood also helped. The AH Weimarstraat, for example, held a deposit campaign and many entrepreneurs donated prizes for the lottery with which The Circus also does crowdfunding and crowdsourcing.
