And the winner is…

Local filmmakers extend their thanks for recognition after winning a prize for their documentary. JaJa Film Productions is based in Wassenaar.

“We are very proud and honoured to have won the Peace and Sport Documentary Prize of the SPORTEL Awards for our long documentary Fighting for Life. The film is directed by Jamillah van der Hulst and Ian Greyvensteyn, who both made their feature-length directorial debut.

The SPORTEL Awards is an international competition that rewards the most outstanding sports images of the year. Every year, numerous Olympic champions and celebrities from the sporting world take part in this awards ceremony, which takes place under the High Patronage of H.S.H Prince Albert II and under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. The 29th edition of the SPORTEL Awards were held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Tuesday 23 October 2018.

Fighting for Life gives a unique look inside the South-African prison Drakenstein Correctional Center and the impressive work of Dutch boxing coach Sharita van der Hulst in the rehabilitation program for prisoners that are serving heavy sentences. The film shows Sharita at work during a one week coaching course that she provides to selected prisoners who want to become a boxing coach themselves.

Special thanks goes out to co-director Ian Greyvensteyn, editor Django Agterberg, composer Erik Hofland, executive producers Mike Downey and Mark Dornford-May, protagonists Sharita, Abdul, Athule, Biyana and Shane, Drakenstein Correctional Center, and everybody else who made this film possible.
