Police cars, ambulances and fire trucks have new stripes on the outside of the vehicle, introduced last week. The stripes are wider and different in color, making them more visible at night and in the day to drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
The former look of the striping, as the design is called, comes from 1993 and was due for replacement. The new stripes are twice as wide and are placed higher. Moreover, the colours are different with the original orange on Police cars being swapped for red.
Vehicles will be changed only when necessary to reduce costs, so there will be a transition period where both old and new designs can be seen.
