Kiki Bertens has lost the final of the Rosmalen tennis tournament. Her American opponent Alison Riske won in three sets of the Wateringse: 6-0, 6-7, 5-7. In the second set, Bertens had five match points that they all left unused. It was Bertens her first final where grass served as a tennis base.

Bertens remains fourth in the world ranking. Through her final place she ends up with her close pursuers Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber.

Bertens attracted the first set without any problems. She didn’t give up a game and won 6-0 against the American number 61 in the world.

Injury

At the start of the second set, with a 1-0 score, Bertens slipped and had to be treated for an injury. It turned out not to be too bad. She received five match points that she did not redeem. Bertens then had to allow her opponent to take the second set after a tiebreak.

During a 3-3 score in the third set, rain caused the game to be interrupted. Then Riske was the better on the field and she got a 5-6 score match point. She picked it up and won the tennis tournament. The tournament win also involved €34,677.

Roland Garros

Bertens didn’t lose a set until the final. In the first round she won against Sweden’s Johanna Larsson, a lap later she was too strong for fellow countryman Arantxa Rus. In the quarterfinals, another Russian came her way. She then defeated Natalja Vichljantseva. The semi-final was then won from Jelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.

Bertens did win the Madrid and Saint Petersburg tournaments earlier this year . At the Grand Slam of Roland Garros she had to give up injured in the second round. The Westland is not playing a tournament this week.
