The twelfth stage of the Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour 2019 visited the beaches of Scheveningen on Monday. During the large beach clean-up campaign of Stichting De Noordzee, around 370 kilos of waste was removed. “It was the first day that it rained while cleaning up, but everyone was very fanatic,” says volunteer Anne Marie Brevoort at FM The Hague.
Anne Marie is not taking part in the Beach Cleanup Tour for the first time . Both this year and during the previous edition, she participates in all fifteen stages along the southern coast, from Cadzand to Zandvoort. “The most important reason that I participate is that I am enormously worse in litter. Then you can complain, or do something about it yourself. “
According to Brevoort, during the stage from Scheveningen to Wassenaar this year, 370 kilos of waste were picked up by around 120 volunteers. “Last year it was 452 kilos on this stretch of beach, so that is progress,” says an optimistic Anne Marie.
Up to and including 15 August, around 3000 volunteers will participate in the clean-up campaign. The final results will be announced in Zandvoort on the last day.
