KLM Open field to feast on
Visitors of the 100th KLM Open could already look forward to a field of international top golfers such as Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Lee Westwood, Matt Wallace, Thomas Pieters and Martin Kaymer. In addition, the organization can also announce Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington and Englishman Eddie Pepperell. The provisional registration list for the KLM Open 2019 in Amsterdam was published today and contains numerous big names.
The 100th KLM Open has seven major title winners who together have won 11 majors. Patrick Reed is the highest placed in the world ranking with a 16th place at the time of writing. The field also has five players from the top 50, 13 players from the top 100 of the world ranking and three players from the top ten of the Race to Dubai 2019. Edition 100 also has no fewer than 11 winners of the KLM Open.
Tournament director Daan Slooter was very happy with this field: “I am very happy with this field of participants. The 100th edition, the sponsors and the Dutch golf audience also deserve this. It will be a memorable edition on The International and we also notice in the ticket sales that golf enthusiasts want to be here. “
Triple Major winner Padraig Harrington is also coming to Amsterdam. He is one of the many former Ryder Cup players, who will make their appearance at The International golf course in Amsterdam from 12 to 15 September and also the current Captain of the European Team. Harrington is a double winner of the British Open (2007 and 2008) and also won the US PGA Championship in 2008. The best result of the Irishman in the Netherlands is third place.
What a field!
With six titles on the European Tour, Joost Luiten is the most successful Dutch golfer ever. Moreover, he managed to win his “home tournament” twice. In 2013, Luiten enchanted the Kennemer with his first KLM Open victory and in 2016 he repeated it to The Dutch. In 2018, the home favorite had to fail in “his” tournament due to an injury. Now Luiten is back and will have to compete against a very strong field of participants.
There are even more appealing names on the entry list of the KLM Open 2019. Eddie Pepperell (top 50 of the world) will also give color to the KLM Open. Besides being a great golfer, the Englishman is also an intelligent, humorous and controversial personality.
Furthermore the names of title defender Ashun Wu (won 2018), José Maria Olazábal (won 1989 double Masters winner) and, Shubhankar Sharma, Thomas Pieters (won 2017), Nicolas Colsaerts, Thomas Detry, Matt Wallace, Victor Dubuisson, Chris Wood, Thongchai Jaidee and Ross Fisher (won 2007), Michael Campbell (winner of the US Open 2006), Lucas Bjerregaard and Robert Karlsson on the provisional entry list, among others.
Eight Dutch Professionals, six amateurs and eight wildcards will be announced in the coming weeks.
