ADO Den Haag played their biggest home game of the season on Sunday, the clash with arch rival Ajax of Amsterdam. The sell out crowd created a fantastic atmosphere as the two rivals entered the field of play,
The sunshine and crowd lifted ADO into a good start to the game. ADO had a game plan and it looked to be working. ADO were equaling possession with Ajax.
ADO were creating chances, Tomas Necid going close with a volley over the cross bar. Then Nasser El Khayati showed more of his magic. In the thirty seventh minute he fired in a shot tpo the far corner, ADO 1-0. The crowd went crazy. I was standing with a load of Juventus supporters (ADO and Juve have a close friendship). The celebrations were amazing
Sadly the cheers were soon silenced. Ajax responding within a minute, Donny van de Beek collecting a pass from Daley Blind before rounding Robert Zwinkels in the ADO goal to make it 1-1.
It looked as though it would be all square at half-time, yet a VAR (Video Assistant Referee) gave the visitors the upper hand. Aaron Meijers judged to have fould Kasper Dolberg in the area, penalty. Dusan Tadic making it 1-2 deep in injury time, ADO had to be feeling hard done by as it was a very good performance.
The second half in contrast was much quieter. ADO defending deep and allowing Ajax to keep hold of the ball in the middle of the pitch. Meijers, Lex Immers and Tommie Beugelsdijk were excellent. They were containing Ajax and were looking comfortable, that was until the final fifteen minutes.
Hakim Ziyech fired past Zwinkels in the seventy fourth minute, 1-3. ADO had been broken and in the final phase of the game Ajax scored twice more. Dolberg and Ziyech making it 1-5 after eighty two minutes.
The game played out quietly to a close. The fans gave the ADO players a good send off, they had worked so hard, the result flattered Ajax after ADO had done so well.
ADO Den Haag’s next home game is against sc Heerenveen on Saturday 9th March, kick-off 19:45. A club card is not needed for this game.
