The British School in The Netherlands is looking for a Teacher of EAL to join our Junior School Diamanthorst campus, based in the centre of The Hague.  This is a part-time, temporary position (60% fte) to provide maternity cover between October 2015 and February 2016.

Our curriculum has a strong British foundation and our students and teachers are from all around the world, inspiring a vibrant international outlook.    For many of our students English is therefore an additional language – at Junior School Diamanthorst (JSD) there could be between 45 and 60 different nationalities of students, at any one time .  With approximately 350 students aged 3-11 years old, JSD is a small school with a strong heart.  You will be working within a dynamic and open-minded team who strive to help students to become confident, happy individuals. 


We are looking for an experienced Teacher of EAL to support and integrate our ESL/EAL students into the school in order to allow full participation across all subjects.  The aim of the English as an Additional Language Department is to develop and support the learning of EAL both in mainstream classes and through withdrawal from lessons. 


The role includes:

  • Teaching EAL on a withdrawal basis from lessons to individuals and mixed ability groups.

  • Working with individual students and small groups within the mainstream classroom to help students access the curriculum.

  • Establishing a supportive relationship with the students. Establishing a supportive relationship with the students.

  • Liaising with colleagues to prepare supporting materials to help the students to access the curriculum.
